Last Friday was a very exciting day for this Special Education
teacher. We had the Special Olympics with DeSoto County Schools. The middle
school joined forces with the high school and we took a bus load to the games.
I must say that I was a bit skeptical. I was worried that I was not prepared
for the trip. I had paperwork thrown everywhere and several kiddos that don’t
do too great with a lack of structure (behaviorally). I am pleased to say that
the day was great. My kiddos won a bunch of ribbons for their efforts, ate
McDonalds, and got to miss out on a day of academic work!! I am so glad that I
ended up taking them. I really was hesitant about the trip, but my kids acted
perfectly.
My lovely "Burnsy" and I at the Olympics! |
Suzy and I participated in the 1st Annual
Senatobia Carnival at the middle school where I work. I had to go to see some
of my babies perform in the talent show. We met up with Mrs. Burns (my one of a
kind assistant), Bryar (her son), and a few others to watch the show! I am so
glad I went through the trouble of getting my moody Suzy out early that morning
to see that spectacle. We didn’t get to stay at the carnival very long. It was
naptime and time for Suzy’s brunch. She was beginning to get a little antsy, so
we headed to the car after about an hour and a half. We spent the rest of the
afternoon doing a little retail therapy with Mimi, Gigi, Memaw, and Auntie
Laurie.
Suzy is changing so much and doing way more now. It is
hilarious to be around her. She is going through such a fun stage!
Fun at the Talent Show... Not sure which was more entertaining... The performances or her shoes. |

Fun News:
1.
Suzy stands up on her own. She will go from a
sitting position to a standing position without holding on to anything. She can
keep her balance for quite some time too. She is going to be walking before we
know it.
2.
She likes when we clap to her. She thinks it is
very humorous.
3.
She is eating all sorts of fun stuff now.
4.
She has 3 teeth and more on the way quickly!
5.
She can climb out of her walker now.
6.
When we make noises she mimics them.
7.
She is saying “ma----ma”, “da----da”,
“bye------bye”… I don’t know if she knows what she is saying or not, but it is
still fun to hear it.
8.
When I turn the bath water on at night she high
tails it in the bathroom. You can hear her little paws hitting the tile floor
at a very rapid pace. Bath time is still one of her favorite things.
9.
She is starting to eat more and less often.
10.
She also plays more and sleeps less often.
11.
The playpen has replaced her love for the
walker.
12.
She is a big time “Mama’s Girl”…. AND I LOVE IT!
(I know that she will change her mind almost weekly of whose girl she wants to
be, but the past few weeks she has been all about Mama!)
13.
Her hair is finally growing!
She thought it was fun to rip my closet to shreds one morning before work. |
In effort to keep our afternoons fun I have been trying to
find different things for us to do besides just going home every day. I thought
that it would be fun to go see her best friend forever, Easten, for a fun photo
shoot one afternoon. She had not seen him in ages so they were past due for a
play date. It was great. We got them all dressed up in their MSU attire and
took some of the cutest pictures ever!! I just cannot get over how much those
two have grown up. We love those Mahans to pieces.
Look at her cutting those eyes at him.... He will be getting more of these looks in the future I am sure. |
